Welcome to Portland Progressives Toastmasters Club!
Our main purpose is to help those who want to conquer their fear of speaking, especially those with an interest in changing our world for the better. And to help progressive thinkers and activists hone their progressive voices as consummate speakers and leaders!

Have you wanted to speak out on progressive community, political or environmental issues, but felt too shy or lacked confidence?
Have you wanted to be more assertive about progressive ideas, but felt you lacked the speaking skills to express them?
Have you wanted to lobby or speak passionately for a cause, but felt unqualified to do so because you lacked good speaking skills, including how to organize your thoughts persuasively?
Do you want to take on an activist role, but feel you do not know how to be a leader?
If you answered "yes" to any or all of these questions, or are just curious to see what we are about, stop by any Thursday evening and visit. There is no obligation.
Portland Progressives Toastmasters will help you develop personal communication skills that will:
Help you articulate in a clear and non-confrontational voice progressive vision and values
Provide opportunities to craft and practice persuasive progressive language
Offer different ways to frame issues, helping you to connect more effectively with your audience
Help develop leadership skills

Progressive noun - A person who actively favors or strives for progress toward better conditions, as in society or government. Toastmasters - noun - Members of an international organization working to improve their own communication and leadership skills.

Second Floor Conference Room (accessible by elevator or stairs) Typically an "after meeting" meeting is held at Tom's Restaurant (kitty-corner from the Clinic)
When: All Thursdays (except holidays or holiday-eves)
6:30-7:45 p.m.
Meeting Themes: For each meeting the Toastmaster will select a theme for the meeting. The Toastmaster will thread the theme through the meeting and the Table Topic Master will provide topics that fit the theme. Speakers may fit their speech to the theme, but are not required to. To help the Toastmaster of each meeting establish a theme for the meeting, our Vice-President of Education has set out a schedule of general themes to use each week; 1st Thursday: Politics! After all, we are Portland Progressives. 2nd Thursday: Family and friends. 3rd Thursday: Work and Play. 4th Thursday: Potpourri. 5th Thursday: Toastmaster's choice.

Driving Directions::
From the east side of Portland
Travel west on SE Division until you reach SE 40th Avenue. The OHSU Clinic parking lot entrance is just after you pass SE 40th Avenue. Turn left into the parking lot.
From the west side of Portland
Travel east on SE Division, passing through the intersection of SE Division Street and SE 39th Avenue. Go past the OHSU Clinic about one-half block. Turn right into the parking lot.
From the north or northeast side of Portland
Travel south on SE 39th Avenue until you reach SE Division. Turn left and go past the OHSU Clinic or about one-half block. Turn right into the parking lot.
From the south side of Portland
Travel on SE 39th Avenue to SE Division. Turn right at the intersection and go past the OHSU Clinic about one-half block. Turn right into the parking lot.
